Hello 👋🏽
Earlier this week, I was a guest on The Mini Adult Troubles podcast, where I spoke to Ayush about dealing with pressure and uncertainty, being authentic, my MBA experience and starting Decks and Diapers. You know you are old when the next generation reaches out to you for life advice. Jokes aside, I enjoyed our free-flowing conversation and hopefully you will enjoy it too. Give it a listen! 🎧
My last post on Structures - The invisible forces that help maintain the status quo seemed to strike a chord with readers. There are two reader comments that are worth sharing with the broader community. I would encourage you to take out the time and go through the links that have been shared by Han and Cisi.
While teaching racism in university sociology class Han, often discussed the structural aspect of racism in terms of three levels: 1. Institutionalized 2. Personally mediated and 3. Internalized. There’s a gardener’s tale that puts this theory in very easily understandable term. You can read this article to learn more
I agree with Han where she mentions
The most tragic form of racism is internalized racism, which has its root in long-lasting and normalized institutionalized racism. It can be so unconscious that the person suffering from it him/herself might not even realize that.
Cisi shared this course by liberate & chill which will help you understand more about the structure of racism and she also shared a link to a whole host of great books by Black authors, available for free on Google Drive. Thank you Cisi!! 📚
Now on to this week's post.....
This week’s issue is slightly different from my past issues. I am not sharing my thoughts on one topic but instead introducing something new - take you on a journey down a rabbit hole!
Essentially what this means for you the reader is that once a month (could increase the frequency if there is interest) I will share 3 links (it had to be 3, after all I am a consultant 😛) that will help you get deep on a topic! Honest reason why I am doing this is because I spend a lot of my time consuming content from various sources and this gives me an avenue to share some of the interesting stuff that I have read / heard / seen (in the hope that you will share things back with me).
Given that today, August 29th is India's National Sports Day I decided to dig up some of my old posts and share them with you. Happy reading!
📖 How did Cricket something so British become one of the strongest force behind uniting Indians - Cricket, Colony And The Creation Of The Indian Community
(This was the first piece I shared with the wider world - wrote it in 2014)
📖 India is a country of over a billion people but it still struggles to produce world class athletes. The problem with Indian sports is not one of talent but of opportunity. Here is a piece on Re-imagining Sports In India
(This was written in 2016 and unfortunately a lot of this still holds true)
📖 2020 was supposed to be the year of the Tokyo Olympic Game. Covid messed that up. Well anyway that gives you almost another year to brush up on your Olympics history The Ancient Olympic Games And The Myths Surrounding Its Origin
I would love to hear from you, feedback is always welcome!
Love the new format - I’ve been craving for some deep and well thought of writings - keep it up but no pressure :)
